Professional Development and “STEM in a Box” kits for K-12 Teachers in the MS Delta State University

This program is an opportunity for K-12 Science/Math teachers in the Mississippi Delta to receive free professional development and resource kits for the classroom. The professional development and kits will be tailored to your specific discipline and age range of students. The summer training will provide 2.4 CEU credits at no cost to participants as well as participation stipends and lodging accommodations if necessary.

Space is limited, and the deadline to apply is Feb. 2, 2024.

However, the deadline to apply is February 2, 2024. There is limited space, so not all applicants are guaranteed a spot. There will be a waitlist should spots become available. Applicants will be notified in February as to whether or not they have been accepted or placed on the waitlist.

Who can participate?

Any K-12 teacher in a STEM discipline can participate. The grant is written for MS Delta schools which includes the following counties: Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, DeSoto, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, Warren, Washington, and Yazoo.

What are the dates for the professional development?

The first summer session will be June 17-20, 2024. The following summer will also include a 4-day workshop, but dates are not yet determined. Throughout the academic year there will be one Saturday session for the different cohorts. Those dates are also yet to be determined.

What is included in the “STEM in a box” kits?

These are not premade kits; the kits will be developed based on the needs assessment submitted by the participating teachers. So, you tell us what you need in your classroom, and we work to make that happen.

How many CEUs does this training provide?

Each summer session will provide 2.4 CEUs if attended in entirety. The CEUs will be processed upon completion of each summer workshop, and there is a minimum of a three-week wait for certificates from date check payments are deposited in Student Business Services.

What does it cost to participate?

The workshop is free! You actually get paid to attend! There is a travel stipend that will be issued upon completion of each summer session as well as a lodging stipend with the submission of hotel receipts. More details on these will be provided to the selected participants.
